Holly-ann’s Travels

Over the last two months I have been travelling the country and my experiences both with training and promoting our resources has strengthened my commitment to teaching children Protective Behaviours.

National Protective Behaviours Conference, Tasmania

During July, I was thrilled to be given the opportunity to showcase the Protecting Kids new range of resources at the National Protective Behaviours Conference in Tasmania. The resources were very well received; the feedback was amazing with many of the participants taking time to offer congratulations and praise. I would like to thank the Conference organisers and all of the participants who attended my presentation, your support is so valuable and greatly appreciated.

Halls Creek, Western Australia

In August, I was asked by the Kununnurra District Education Office to travel up to Halls Creek for a week to work in the school, teaching the children and mentoring the teachers. I conducted 15 classes and a two hour briefing with the staff. It was a very rewarding week, especially as I was able to pilot some of our latest resources.

One of them was our Theme Posters, in particular the second theme: “We can talk with someone about anything, no matter what it is” – see pic left.  As soon as I had put it up on the wall, the children started to discuss it without any prompting from me.  Some suggestions were: “He feels unsafe”, “His Mum and Dad are fighting”, “He doesn’t have any friends”. Then they started brainstorming whom the five people (Network Members) represented.  I was really excited that they responded so well as some of the children had limited literacy skills but were able to ascertain the message of the poster with little direction from me.

Thank you to all the staff and students at Halls Creek District High for making me feel welcome and I hope you will continue with the good work we started.
